The Grains of Sand series is a collection of paintings that depict the poetic nature of the vast scale of the known and unknown stretches of the universe.
In 2022, NASA’s James Webb telescope captured the clearest infrared image of the distant universe. The image showed thousands of glowing lights—each light was not a star, but an entire galaxy. Even more profoundly, the thousands of galaxies depicted in this image represent such a small fraction of the universe that its scale was likened to that of a single grain of sand amongst all of the sand on every beach on Earth.
The series invites viewers to reflect on their relationship with the space that surrounds them and to meditate on the nature of distance and time.
Prints will be shipped directly from the artist’s studio in a 4 x 12” mailing tube. To flatten prints, you are advised to remove the print from its tube, keep the print wrapped in paper, and flatten for 24-48 hours using heavy books or other heavy, flat objects.
